If you have a dental bridge or an implant-supported bridge, you probably already know that you are supposed to clean underneath it. Your dentist or hygienist may have shown you how to use a floss threader, Super Floss, an interdental brush, or a water flosser.

But what actually happens if you don’t floss under your bridge?

In my experience, the problem usually isn’t that patients don’t care about their dental work. And it isn’t that they haven’t been told to floss.

The problem is that flossing underneath connected dental work can be surprisingly difficult.

Unlike flossing natural teeth, you cannot simply push a piece of floss between two teeth. You first have to get the floss underneath the bridge.
